About me
Hallo, I´m Marianne from Aachen (a town in Germany next to the border, where Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands meet). I joined the C4L-Tour in 2013 (?) from Amsterdam to Brussels, and I liked it very much. So I decided to participate again this year. I hope to meet some people again I got to know on the last tour. :) My job or my link with libraries I don´t work in a library, but I like libraries since I´m a child as a place to find (good) books and other people with the same passion. Why do I think libraries are important? I think libraries are important for the whole society. There are not only a place to find good books for your free time. Libraries give the chance to EVERYBODY to inform about any topic he/she wants - and to make him an responsible member of the society. Of course the library is also a place to learn about the atmosphere reading a book can create.

Describe yourself in one sentence I am friendly and sometimes a bit forgetful when it comes to homework. ;-) My job or my link with librarie I work as a librarian at Rostock University library. Why do I think libraries are important In my case (talking about University libraries, though not exclusively), I think it's crucial support for people on their way to becoming what they want to be or reaching a scientific goal. (...and in an accessible matter, regarding costs and orientation) About me I am an open-minded person and curious to meet new people and visit different places. My job I am a librarian at University and City Library of Cologne and work there at the registration desk for library cards and in the area of long-term archiving of digital collections. Why do I think libraries are important? Libraries provide to the public / their users a large amount of digital and printed resources, but also a place to meet, to study, to share ideas, to try out new technologies or to spend their free time and simply relax. My challenge or focus It will be my first “Cycling for libraries” and I am curious to experience the countryside, people and libraries of Belgium by bike. I am also looking forward to meeting you all and exchanging ideas and experiences about present and future library work. About me I am an open-minded, politically-interested person and I'd like to know people from all around the world. My job or my link with libraries I am dealing with intercultural issues and the inter-library loan. Why do I think libraries are important? Libraries mean the access to knowledge and culture. They are an open space for people to meet. They asure the possibility for everyone to be able to read and lend books and other media. My challenge or focus I am interested to get to know other libraries, what they offer and what they are planning for their future. I am especially interested in the intercultural topic (as it is my focus at work) and would like to see how other libraries deal with it. Additionally I am happy to meet other people who work in the same field but in other countries. |
