About me I`m 37-years-old mostly optimistic father of three children. My job or my link with libraries I am a library director and I work at the Joensuu branch libraries. Why do I think libraries are important? I believe that the importance of libraries can be found from their call for equality among people. Life is sometimes unequal, but library welcomes everyone. For me, this is the main reason why I want to work in the library. I believe that libraries increases good in the world. My challenge or focus Cycling for libraries is an event in which I have wanted to take part for a long time. This is my first tour and I think that it´s great to be able to see how this kind of happening is organized. I also think that this is an opportunity to learn again something new from our occupation. Most of all I am looking forward to meet and connect with cycling colleagues from many countries This is where I work: Joensuun seutukirjasto

About me We (me and my wife + our cat Eetu) are living in Espoo city (south coast, near Helsinki). I like reading, sometimes writing too, wander in forests, trying to find delicious mushrooms and blueberries (we have a lot of blueberries in our forests), cycling too of course. I appreciate progressive co-operation and to chat & discuss with different kind of people. My motto is ”If you fall, stand up!" My job or my link with libraries I have been working a lot in the municipal Libraries. During the last 3 years I have been working in Library´s Makerspace. It´s wonderful to see how the customers and the members of staff learn together there, creating something new at the same time. Why do I think libraries are important? Libraries help to make it possible. We offer the space to the customers, knowledge sharing, getting new ideas … Libraries really have a positive role in the world. My challenge or focus My library, Espoo City Library, promotes democracy, free sharing of Information, learning together, co-operation and independence by working together with the asylum seekers. The main goal is help them assimilate to the society. My goal during our cycling tour is to learn how the libraries around the world promote co-operation, independence, courage, democracy and free sharing of information. I will try and ask you during our tour about how these issues are present in your work. Thank you already in advance! This is where I work: Espoo city Library About me I live and work at around southern Finland, joining for the 4th Cycling for Libraries campaign My job I am a Librarian in the public library of Sipoo, doing things with collections and booking comics exhibitions among other things. This is the library where I work: ttp://sipoo.fi/fi/kulttuuri_ja_vapaa-aika/kirjasto/omatoimikirjasto (Library of Sipoo) Why do I think libraries are important? Public libraries are in a leading role for not letting people to be left behind on this information age by giving access and consultation to information, but also by providing work spaces and meeting places. Nevertheless libraries always contribute on reading, which is fundamental especially now as we face the demands of disinformation and rapid development of cultural evolution. My challenge or focus On redefining the role of the libraries I am especially interested on the concrete question of library systems and management of such information system conversions, as we just recently updated our system into an open source system Koha in Sipoo along with a new group of libraries, named as Helle libraries, during the spring and the year 2017. |
