About me
Hallo, I´m Marianne from Aachen (a town in Germany next to the border, where Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands meet). I joined the C4L-Tour in 2013 (?) from Amsterdam to Brussels, and I liked it very much. So I decided to participate again this year. I hope to meet some people again I got to know on the last tour. :) My job or my link with libraries I don´t work in a library, but I like libraries since I´m a child as a place to find (good) books and other people with the same passion. Why do I think libraries are important? I think libraries are important for the whole society. There are not only a place to find good books for your free time. Libraries give the chance to EVERYBODY to inform about any topic he/she wants - and to make him an responsible member of the society. Of course the library is also a place to learn about the atmosphere reading a book can create.

About me Ik ben heel graag onder de mensen. I just like to be among people. My job or my link with libraries Ik werk halftijds als bibliothecaris in de bibliotheek van Watermaal-Bosvoorde. I work as a part-time librarian in the library of Watermaal-Bosvoorde. Why do I think libraries are important? Een bibliotheek is een plaats van ontmoeting, een plaats om tot rust te komen, een plaats om je geest te verruimen, een plaats om te ontspannen, een plaats waar iedereen zich zou moeten thuis voelen. A library is a place of meeting, a place to relax, a place to expand your mind, a place to relax, a place where everyone should feel at home. My challenge or focus Ontmoeting! Meeting people! This is where I work: Bibliotheek Rozenberg
About me O describe myself in one sentence: " I want to ride my bicycle". My job I work in the public library of Malmedy, a peaceful town in the east of Belgium. Why do I think libraries are important? For me, library means window on the world and social inclusion. I believe in the power of books (or games and computers) but we need of a mediation (especially by us - the librarians). It's a breath of life. My challenge I often ride my bicycle with friends and we like to climb little mountains. My "Cycling For Libraries" challenge is different: I want to discover many ways of thinking the world and the library. So, I'm looking forward to share with you about libraries and other discussion topics...on the bike ;) Describe yourself in one sentence I am friendly and sometimes a bit forgetful when it comes to homework. ;-) My job or my link with librarie I work as a librarian at Rostock University library. Why do I think libraries are important In my case (talking about University libraries, though not exclusively), I think it's crucial support for people on their way to becoming what they want to be or reaching a scientific goal. (...and in an accessible matter, regarding costs and orientation) About me I live and work in Ghent. I participated in 3 tours (Cycling for Libraries an CycloBiblio) and am now helping to organise Cycling for Libraries Belgium. Looking forward to september! My job I’m a librarian at Artevelde University college Ghent in Belgium. We offer 18 programmes for professional bachelors. The library has five locations – I work in two of them. My subjects: education, early childhood and primary school education. Why do I think libraries are important? In an educational context, libraries have to offer a wide variety of relevant information resources. The most important goal is to use our skills, services and resources in order to facilitate the creation and distribution of knowledge in the organisation. My focus My focus is how to adapt our communication and library services to a changing context. The context we are working in is changing rapidly: new communication media, changing user profiles & user behaviour, a changing organisation, a changing information landscape, the growing importance of digital information sources, and so on… The question is: how can we adapt or anticipate to these changes, and how can we transform them into new opportunities? In order to remain relevant in an educational context, we’ll have to redefine the role of our library. Our skills as information and content managers can be useful when we look for new services. New skills will be necessary for the library staff, – but more than ever we’ll have to look for closer collaboration with other partners within or outside the organisation. Looking forward to meet, to share, to exchange. See you soon! My job or my link with libraries I am a library director and I work at the Joensuu branch libraries. Why do I think libraries are important? I believe that the importance of libraries can be found from their call for equality among people. Life is sometimes unequal, but library welcomes everyone. For me, this is the main reason why I want to work in the library. I believe that libraries increases good in the world. My challenge or focus Cycling for libraries is an event in which I have wanted to take part for a long time. This is my first tour and I think that it´s great to be able to see how this kind of happening is organized. I also think that this is an opportunity to learn again something new from our occupation. Most of all I am looking forward to meet and connect with cycling colleagues from many countries This is where I work: Joensuun seutukirjasto About me
My name is Pauline. I'm an enthusiastic person. It will be my first "Cycling for libraries" and I'm really excited to meet you all ! My job I coordinate the team in a public library in Brussels. Why do I think libraries are important? The importance of librariesLibraries are essential in a democracy. It's a place where people can meet, debate, find informations, rest, dream, ... They are like bubbles of freedom in a world where everything go so fast. My challenge or focus Two issues are important for me at the moment : the mixity of publics in the library (how to mix different public, how to make live side by side different people and need in the same place - difficult especially with the young people). About me I'm cultural coordinator for the local city area and library of 2018 Antwerp My job or my link with libraries I'm the responsible for the Brederode library in 2018 Antwerp and a fan of libraries in general Why do I think libraries are important? Inspiring, empowering and connecting people. My challenge or focus To exchange expertise and new practices for keeping libraries attractive for the public in a changing context. This is where I work: Stad Antwerpen About me I am director emeritus of the Ghent public library; during the last period of my career I was responsible for the planning of a new central library, called the Krook, which opened tot he public in March 2017. My job or my link with libraries I am now retired Why do I think libraries are important? Public libraries are amongst the last non-commercial havens, open to everybody and irreplaceable promoters of reading and lifelong learning. My challenge or focus I think that libraries can no longer limit themselves to just providing access to their collection. They should also focus on their broader cultural and educational impact. I am therefore particularly interested to learn how various libraries cope with this challenge. This is where I (used to) work: Openbare Bibliotheek Gent
