About me O describe myself in one sentence: " I want to ride my bicycle". My job I work in the public library of Malmedy, a peaceful town in the east of Belgium. Why do I think libraries are important? For me, library means window on the world and social inclusion. I believe in the power of books (or games and computers) but we need of a mediation (especially by us - the librarians). It's a breath of life. My challenge I often ride my bicycle with friends and we like to climb little mountains. My "Cycling For Libraries" challenge is different: I want to discover many ways of thinking the world and the library. So, I'm looking forward to share with you about libraries and other discussion topics...on the bike ;)

About me I live and work in Ghent. I participated in 3 tours (Cycling for Libraries an CycloBiblio) and am now helping to organise Cycling for Libraries Belgium. Looking forward to september! My job I’m a librarian at Artevelde University college Ghent in Belgium. We offer 18 programmes for professional bachelors. The library has five locations – I work in two of them. My subjects: education, early childhood and primary school education. Why do I think libraries are important? In an educational context, libraries have to offer a wide variety of relevant information resources. The most important goal is to use our skills, services and resources in order to facilitate the creation and distribution of knowledge in the organisation. My focus My focus is how to adapt our communication and library services to a changing context. The context we are working in is changing rapidly: new communication media, changing user profiles & user behaviour, a changing organisation, a changing information landscape, the growing importance of digital information sources, and so on… The question is: how can we adapt or anticipate to these changes, and how can we transform them into new opportunities? In order to remain relevant in an educational context, we’ll have to redefine the role of our library. Our skills as information and content managers can be useful when we look for new services. New skills will be necessary for the library staff, – but more than ever we’ll have to look for closer collaboration with other partners within or outside the organisation. Looking forward to meet, to share, to exchange. See you soon! C4L Belgium team Edward is our ''mailman''. 7000 km away from our headquarters in Ghent, he is the administrator of our C4L Belgium mailing list. Thanks for that!
About me "Our work, what we do...it's not just a job. It's who I am" Joan Watson in Elementary My job or my link with libraries I'm a library assistant: I assist and try to inspire patrons, the librarian and colleagues with our analog and digital collections and with my curiosity and eagerness to learn and share everything in digital media, languages, linguistics, history, literature and world cinema. Why do I think libraries are important? I am witness every day of how and why libraries are necessary and a haven for many different kinds of people: neighbourhood children and elderly, refugees and other immigrants, middle class families, single parents, job seekers, students, ... A library can never be big enough to fulfill the needs of all these people. My challenge and focus Facilitating a great time for everyone on this local tour. This is where I work: Openbare bibliotheek Berchem (Antwerpen)
