About me I am an open-minded person and curious to meet new people and visit different places. My job I am a librarian at University and City Library of Cologne and work there at the registration desk for library cards and in the area of long-term archiving of digital collections. Why do I think libraries are important? Libraries provide to the public / their users a large amount of digital and printed resources, but also a place to meet, to study, to share ideas, to try out new technologies or to spend their free time and simply relax. My challenge or focus It will be my first “Cycling for libraries” and I am curious to experience the countryside, people and libraries of Belgium by bike. I am also looking forward to meeting you all and exchanging ideas and experiences about present and future library work.

About me I am an open-minded, politically-interested person and I'd like to know people from all around the world. My job or my link with libraries I am dealing with intercultural issues and the inter-library loan. Why do I think libraries are important? Libraries mean the access to knowledge and culture. They are an open space for people to meet. They asure the possibility for everyone to be able to read and lend books and other media. My challenge or focus I am interested to get to know other libraries, what they offer and what they are planning for their future. I am especially interested in the intercultural topic (as it is my focus at work) and would like to see how other libraries deal with it. Additionally I am happy to meet other people who work in the same field but in other countries. About me I live and work at around southern Finland, joining for the 4th Cycling for Libraries campaign My job I am a Librarian in the public library of Sipoo, doing things with collections and booking comics exhibitions among other things. This is the library where I work: ttp://sipoo.fi/fi/kulttuuri_ja_vapaa-aika/kirjasto/omatoimikirjasto (Library of Sipoo) Why do I think libraries are important? Public libraries are in a leading role for not letting people to be left behind on this information age by giving access and consultation to information, but also by providing work spaces and meeting places. Nevertheless libraries always contribute on reading, which is fundamental especially now as we face the demands of disinformation and rapid development of cultural evolution. My challenge or focus On redefining the role of the libraries I am especially interested on the concrete question of library systems and management of such information system conversions, as we just recently updated our system into an open source system Koha in Sipoo along with a new group of libraries, named as Helle libraries, during the spring and the year 2017. About me
I'm Liesbeth from Ghent, Belgium. This is my first Cycling for Libraries tour so I'm excited and nervous at the same time. My job I’m a health librarian at Artevelde University college Ghent in Belgium. I mainly give instructions to students on finding information and referencing. I'm also in charge of statistics and interlibrary loans. Why do I think libraries are important? In this age of overinformation information literacy is vital and as librarians we have a huge role to play in providing clarity and insight. My challenge or focus I'm interested to learn what other libraries do in aid of community building. And meeting interesting people of course. About me "Our work, what we do...it's not just a job. It's who I am" Joan Watson in Elementary My job or my link with libraries I'm a library assistant: I assist and try to inspire patrons, the librarian and colleagues with our analog and digital collections and with my curiosity and eagerness to learn and share everything in digital media, languages, linguistics, history, literature and world cinema. Why do I think libraries are important? I am witness every day of how and why libraries are necessary and a haven for many different kinds of people: neighbourhood children and elderly, refugees and other immigrants, middle class families, single parents, job seekers, students, ... A library can never be big enough to fulfill the needs of all these people. My challenge and focus Facilitating a great time for everyone on this local tour. This is where I work: Openbare bibliotheek Berchem (Antwerpen)
