I am director emeritus of the Ghent public library; during the last period of my career I was responsible for the planning of a new central library, called the Krook, which opened tot he public in March 2017.
My job or my link with libraries
I am now retired
Why do I think libraries are important?
Public libraries are amongst the last non-commercial havens, open to everybody and irreplaceable promoters of reading and lifelong learning.
My challenge or focus
I think that libraries can no longer limit themselves to just providing access to their collection. They should also focus on their broader cultural and educational impact. I am therefore particularly interested to learn how various libraries cope with this challenge.
This is where I (used to) work: Openbare Bibliotheek Gent
